There is all kinda of awesome

out on the internet today.

This is disturbing....in that good way!

What is a movie

without popcorn!? This has to be one of the cleverest marketing idea.....at least from a haunters point f view. This was made for a Detroit area horror film festival.

 Brilliant!

It looks so simple

as just a pile of supplies.

But when you start putting them together they begin to look like this.  Here are pictures of the temporary frame with the foam attached so we can start drawing out the stone pattern.  Then we have to take all the sheets off, create new frames for them based on the new shapes (we are going to great a lot of ruined walls - so we care going to be doing a lot of custom framing.)

Then we have to start texturing all the panels and painting them.  We are creating inside panels too because of it being so open, you will be able to see the inside.

The reason that the panels have gaps is that we also realize if you can see inside we have to make the walls 10" thick so that it actually looks like flat stone and not just panels.  We learned this from the abbey build - that said, at least a half a dozen walls in the abbey are going to have to be reworked using this method.

Yeah, I do not plan on sleeping much between now and October.......

Pass me a fork

Is that a cool cake or what?  Made by Charm City Cakes.

The zombies are coming!!!

to Detroit.  At least that is the plan.  Check out this very cool project.  Although it is great the safety of the "zombie" and the people in an idea is a bit questionable......but, hey, life is full of risks right?

Sounds cool.  Definitely check this out!

The scariest thing

we are going to build in the Graveyard will be the angel mourner prop.

Not that she is scary, but we are going to use two new skills that we have yet to perfect......carving foam wings and casting arms.

I might be able to pull off carving foam wings....but I took enough art classes to know that there is no way I am going to be able to pull off human bare arms out of foam.  We are going to cast them.

That said, we learned a valuable lesson at Hauntcon this last May - the hands we cast for the statue were too big.  And the person we cast them off of was a small person.

Good thing all our friends have kids!

We are asking for photo submissions of the groups children and their frineds to see if we can find the perfect set of arm for this project.

Finding a person is not as hard as finding a kid that will actually make it through the moulding phase.

It is not fun or easy to be covered in algenite and bandages and hold a pose for 30 minutes.....we had a hard time filming kids for 30 minutes and that was easier......to be fair....I could not do it....husband hates watching a movie with me since I HAVE to get up every 30 minutes or so.....sitting; not for the frog queen.

This will be a fun project and I look forward on sharing the process with everyone.

The order has been placed with Smooth for modeling supplies....so let the fun begin!

I could just save myself a lot of heartache and buy (animated) one from Scarefactory

But where is the fun in that?

Made my day

Pumpkins (and owls) have invaded my local JoAnn Fabrics store!!

Very happy shopping day!!!!

Let's take a closer look

at the new ideas for the 2013 Davis Graveyard Mausoleum

We are going to break out the back wall for a video projection.

Ruining the sides and front columns and broken gothic windows on both sides.  There will be no door on this one.

Ruining the roof line - and there will be no roof on the new one.  You can see the original top from the current version just there in the bottom of the picture.

After looking at this we decided that we are going to sell the current version as is and completely rebuild from scratch.  We will need to have thicker walls since you can see the inside (we learned this from how hallow the ruined abbey looks....we noticed it to and are going to fix that this year :D ) - so we are going to need to make almost double the panels (panels back to back) so that we can finish the inside and give the whole project some weight.

We start next weekend.....let the fun begin.

And...does anyone want to buy an mausoleum? :D

Happy Halloween my friends!
