The Chicken Channel

has been canceled on Cat TV. Due to the immediate and unexpected relocation of the star to Battle Ground, WA. We apologize for the inconvenience.

You cats may now go back to clawing the furniture and trying to trip your owners down the stairs.

-----------------------------------

There was a chicken in my yard for about two weeks. Actually I come to find out Jeff was right all along and it was a rooster.....yep, city girl all the way.

Jeff told me the story of the chicken in the yard and how the cats reacted. But I thought, actually I really thought "he needs to get out more" but also, right....there is a chicken in the yard....riiiiiight, a chicken....... Remind me to take you OUT to dinner when I get home.

"Don't let Hal out", I said.

"He won't catch the chicken" he says

"No, I know that, I don't want the chicken to hurt Hal."

"Oh, yeah"

There might have been a time Hal could wrangle a chicken, but now, I would put my money on the chicken.

----------------------------------

So, I am at home one day and watch all three cats race from the office to the potions/music room, falling over each other to get to the window.

WTF?

Before I can get up and find out what is going on....whooooosh!

Right past me to the garden window.

I did not think Hal could move that fast anymore, maybe I was wrong about the chicken wrangling.

Get to the window, and

can't see a thing but cat backside.

Lovely.

I open the door (not the smartest thing I have ever done) to look outside.

I was like a giant cat magnet came into being and pulled all three cats off the window and to the door.

Slam!

MEEEEOOOOW! (Oops, sorry about that Mason :)

Yep, it is a gray and white chicken strutting around the yard. Could care less that I walked out the door. Stared right at me, "Whoa, your huge!"

Big, brave chicken took a few steps toward me..... I look at him and think - yep, he would eat a cat and wonder hum, so what do cats taste like to chickens?

I look up to see three cats in the window staring at me as if to say

"Could you bring that in the house mom?"

I am vegetarian so you are all so S.O.L.

I get back in the house by 'punting' cats out of the way.

MEEEEOOOOW! (Oops, sorry (again) Mason :)

Well, I am done with that, but the cats are not.

They spend 15 minutes going from window to window watching the chicken walk around the yard.

Anything that keeps them from clawing the furniture is fine by me.

So, at any time of the day you could tell if the chicken was in the yard by the scurry of furry feet all over the house. And the occasional thunck, when one of them (likely Dorie) has a bit of a braking problem, and hits the glass. I know I shouldn't laugh, but it is funny! :)

Fun for them, distracting for me (and sometimes my friends - "Look there's a chicken!" - really, Dan, there is a chicken. Really? No way!)
-------------------
The other Saturday morning I heard a rooster crowing....thought to myself, what the heck is on the radio ?!?!? Went back to sleep - cause it was Saturday!!! (Hallelujah!)

Next thing I know, my neighbor and some guy with a net are in the yard, trying to catch the chicken.

"Is that your chicken?" I ask Mabel?

"Well, it's a rooster actually (big smile from husband that tells me I am so going to get the "told you so" lecture!), it has been in my yard for about 6 weeks, so I guess it is now. But I don't want it so I asked a friend from Battle Ground if he wanted it."

Hence the stranger with the net.

(Well, we might want to consult those three fuzzy things with their faces pressed to the window - you are taking their entertainment :)

I imagine it was some consolation to the cats; I mean watching four adults chase a chicken around our yard was probably quite entertaining.

So, the rooster is now in Battle Ground, I imagine, waiting to be someones dinner.
So, The Chicken/Rooster Channel is off the air

back to Squirrel in the Bird Feeder Channel on Cat TV

I feel bad, maybe I should get them a fish tank.

Note - this is a repost from my blog circa 2008 - not my first post, but blogger seems to think so. Thought it was worth sharing again.
