How could you

abandon these rides....is the devil character as the part of the entrance to the inferno ride just creepy?

This is a now defunct park called Miracle Strip Amusement Park, in Panama City, Florida - the two rides are Dante's Inferno and the Haunted Castle. The park was built in 1963 and closed in 2004.

I do love these pictures, they are is it sad and alluring at the same time. check out this original photo book, he has taken a lot more pictures. They are just amazing.

  1. It is sad, yet their lonliness and decay makes them even more alluring. Too bad that you can't save them in the condition that they are in right now, and transport them to somewhere, where people could continue to enjoy them.

Now HOW big is your yard? ;-)

  2. Oh yes - I think the Davis Graveyard could have a Devil's Inferno, couldn't it? Lol - I'm sure the neighbours won't mind...

  3. I'd love to have them both. We have 6 acres sitting around. What fun we could have with these!

  4. So sad. A whole part of history is just decaying away. :(

  5. Oh man... that's very sad. If I could afford to salvage them, I would... They could be reused to do a very cool haunt.

  6. It is indeed sad to see it left decaying the way it is, yet alluring in a spooky way as it continues to rot on the landscape. How I'd love to have this on my acreage!!!

  7. omg, you mentioned my town in yer blog!
poor poor Miracle Strip - they dismantled it to build condos, then the bottom fell out. Dante's Inferno was awesome, but I preferred the Abominable Snowman.

  8. K0dama - you went there! How cool is that! It makes me even more sad to know that there are now condos where they stood. Very sad ending indeed :(

  9. It's even sadder because the company went belly up, so they never built condos, so they dismantled Miracle Strip for NOTHING!
At least we still have Goofy Golf.

  10. Do you know if any of the pieces were salvaged...or did it all meet the wrecking ball and end up in a landfill? (frog queen wipes away a tear at the though.)

    Cheers!

  11. Lot of cool pics. I'll gladly relocate that tree to my yard.

It would be neat get that park back in operating condition but leave it in that neglected appearance. Have one giant haunted amusement park.

  12. Some of the rides were sold to parks in Georgia and Florida; the roller coaster went to Cypress Gardens. The photos in your post were taken in Sept 09. I imagine they've been torn down, but now I have a mission this weekend!
