but it looks nothing like Thomas Moore describes :D
Here are pictures of a medieval themed amusement park in Japan called Utopia, which included water slides, a bunch of kiddie rides, a roller coaster, a haunted house, a huge Ferris wheel, and many various buildings. I had a hard time tracking down any information on why this park closed. It appears to have been open between 1987 (?) and closed in 2005.
In 2005, a lot of stuff was still left in the haunted house. Here are some great pictures

- I really should
- My favorite day
- That is totally
- The scariest card
- It is just that
- So I took this as a sign
- Since there have been
- She is right
- When you win
- I missed something
- Sometimes it
- My marriage survived another
- The locals call it
- It is rumored
- I really hate shopping
- I found Utopia
- Nothing is better
- Another sad story
- I wish I would
- It is being replaced
- When I first saw
- While we are working
- One of the things
- Husband said it exactly
- You like me,
- They had a frog
- I just love
- Did you bring your scuba gear?
- Thanks Matt
- How could you
- It all started
- Odd things you learn
- Just what I need
- The one and only
- It's all about the vampires
- I don't want to step
- What goes around
- You have until Monday
- Shiny!
- Just when I tell myself
- Do your homework
- So after going through the
- Warm and cozy
- It has started....
- Not at all realted
- My grandma what big eyes
- And a partridge in a a pear tree
- Okay, that last post
- This speaks to
- Oh yeah, I forgot
- Wow, and wow
- I have to say
- We are still waiting
- The most photographed
- How you can tell it is the Holidays
- I think I posted it right

Too bad it's on the other side of Japan from me, otherwise I'd go check it out. I did some surfing and couldn't cough up anymore info than what you already have. It may be affiliated with an existent place called, "Funky Buddha Experience!"
ReplyDeleteSome of that would look good in the old Macabre Drive-In. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of interesting abandoned places in Japan.
ReplyDeletegeez, makes me want to go exploring old abandoned buildings, etc. wish I could go get these things!
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad to see these former sites of laughter so quietly decaying into nothingness. Like the old B&W westerns on television on Saturday mornings. .riding into a ghost town on horseback, with nothing the the wind blowing some tumbleweed and occasionally a torn curtain flapping out a broken window. You could feel the suspense that something was going to happen to make you jump. . .only this time, there isn't. It is just quiet.
ReplyDeleteabandoned amusement parks are so spooky. i guess they should always be crowded and full of laughing people!
ReplyDeletepic #2 is amazing! i would go there just to see that guy.
ReplyDeleteVery spooky indeed. Great setting for a horror flick like a modern day Carnival of Souls.
ReplyDeleteMicheal - thanks for the link.....I would love to visit Japan just to visit the parks...you up to taking the frog queen on a tour? :D
ReplyDeleteCheer!
